Head Coach

Luke McConn

Coach Luke McConn is a native Houstonian. In high school, he set records in his wrestling program for most wins, most falls, and most career takedowns; he was a two-time state placer and state finalist and was recently inducted into the St. Thomas HS athletic hall of fame. He went on to wrestle at the division one level for Ohio University. After college, McConn joined the Cinco Ranch wrestling staff as Head Technique Coach in 2004, joining Head Coach (and his former high school coach), National Wrestling Hall of Famer, Bill Dushane. Together, Dushane and McConn have coached 17 state champs, won nine district team titles, one regional team title, and two state team titles. McConn was the 2007 State Assistant Coach of the Year, the 2014, 2016, 2023 and 2024 District Assistant Coach of the Year, the 2018 and 2024 Regional Assistant Coach of the Year. Outside of wrestling, McConn enjoys traveling with his wife, Sarah, listening to music, cheering on the Houston Astros, and spending time with his two boys, John and David.

Derek Ankney

Coach Ankney originally hails from the great state of Ohio where he wrestled throughout his youth, high school, and collegiate career. During his competitive years Coach Ankney was a 2x Ohio State Qualifier. Coach Ankney wrestled for John Carroll University after his high school career where he became a 2x NCAA Div. III National Qualifier and culminating that career with a 5th place All-American  finish at the 2004 NCAA Div. III National Championships. Coach Ankney moved to Texas in 2008 to become the Head Wrestling Coach at Mayde Creek High School. In 2013, Coach Ankney opened Obra D. Tompkins High School and started their wrestling program. In 2020 and 2021 the Tompkins Girls wrestling team were the UIL 6A State Runners-Up and Coach Ankney was named the 2021 6A Girls Coach of the Year. 

Coach

Christina Bautista

Coach Christina Bautista was a state champion wrestler, a two time state finalist, and a three time all state wrestler. In college, she wrestled four years at Missouri Valley College where she was a two time All American. Bautista has been coaching for four years and was named the 2020 District Girls Coach of the Year.

Clinician

Joaquin Bautista

Joaquin helped out last summer and was a great addition to the camp. Joaquin was a 3x UIL State Placer, UIL State Finalist, 2018 Houston VYPE Wrestler of the Year, 2019 & 2020 NCAA D3 National Dual Champions team member, and 2022 NCAA Lower Southeast Conference finalist. We are lucky to have him stopping in the room while he is home from college!
